I hate to be that asshole who takes a joke seriously… but I don’t like where this sentiment comes from. It’s anti-hipster, which I’m okay with, but it doesn’t apply here. The reason the original is cool is because “design” casts a wide enough net verbally for it to be true. I’m not saying that what I do - graphic design and the like - will save the world. But I’m pretty sure designing cheap, eco-friendly housing for the poor would have more impact than working at a soup kitchen. Clean power? …you could get nitpicky and say that involves engineering and such… but it’s all essentially “design.” Thank you, English.
